Garnet tumblestone

Garnets are semi-precious silicate stones that range in colour from red to green but never blue. Garnet is a hard gem and ideal for jewellery. The name derives from the Latin "granatum" meaning pomegranate because the shades of red and pink resemble the seeds of this fruit. Som garnets used as gemstones include the deep red pyrope garnet, almandine, and the dark red garnet known as the Carbuncle stone. Garnets are not restricted to reds and pinks although the deep red of Rhodolite garnets is the most used and most popular colour in jewellery.
